Being a passively active follower of the politics of my country, for the first time in the past few weeks, the news wasn’t contaminated with dirty politics. And No it wasn’t the BJP emerging victorious in the recent elections.
The highest civilian award, the Bharat Ratna – is being conferred to personalities of actual stature. Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya and Atal Bihari Vajpayee have been notable personalities of our government system.
What is interesting is both these leaders had an inclination on bringing education to the forefront. Where Malviya’s main achievement was the establishment of the prestigious Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Vajpayee’s most spectacular contribution is bringing the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan into effect. Not only this, Vajpayee contributions encompass – Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna for rural roads connectivity program, targeted towards the poorest districts, establishment, and privatization of the telecom sector and enabling Pokharan Nuclear Tests – to name a few.
There are few leaders in this country who have left their footprints in the form of contributions like this. The youth, therefore, needs to be aware and not let the efforts of our great leaders go to waste. Educate yourself and educate others for education is the catalyst that will take this nation to new heights.
